Dental Care
by adminAlong with the every day concerns, teeth should be cared for just as much. Teeth can cause children problems just by coming in and losing their baby teeth and their new big teeth coming in. When babies first have teeth coming in, they will be in pain, run fevers and can be very uncomfortable. In addition, when they lose these baby teeth and the new ones come in children will once again go through teething pain. The molars can be very painful when they are first coming in and you can give your children pain relief medications.
Other than normal teething problems, you may notice that your child is grinding his teeth during his sleep. This is a normal condition called Bruxism. Some children tend to grind their teeth when they are in pain or are in a stressful situation, but other things such as misaligned teeth can also cause this problem. Signs to watch for include grinding noises while sleeping, telling you his face or jaw hurts in the morning after waking up, thumb sucking, fingernail biting, chewing on toys or pencils, and chewing on the inside of the their cheeks. If you notice any of these signs, you should talk with your dentist.
Teaching your children to brush their teeth properly and to floss when aid in keeping their teeth healthy. However, you will need to ensure that they are receiving enough fluoride in the water they drink. When children do not have fluoride in their drinking water, they tend to have more teeth problems as they grow. You should talk with your dentist concerning the amount of fluoride your child needs and if they are receiving too much. Be sure they rinse their teeth and mouth properly and do not swallow any toothpaste.
It is never too early to begin caring for your baby’s teeth. Even before you see teeth, they are there just under the gums. After your baby finishes eating, you should use a warm washcloth and clean the gums and interior of the mouth to ensure that a bacterium is not setting up. As soon as you see the very first tooth, you can start caring for that tooth. You should talk with your dentist and purchase a toothbrush created for babies. Your dentist can advise you to which type of toothpaste to use and when it should be started.
To avoid cavities in your young children, be sure they brush their teeth after every meal and help them to reach all of their gums and teeth and then rinse their mouth thoroughly. Teach them to floss so food does not get trapped in between their teeth. Moreover, remember to have checkups with your dentist regularly.
