Fighting Hayfever

by RachelTheWriter

Summer hayfeverIf your child (or you!) suffers from hayfever, you don’t just have to suffer as the pollen season starts. If you follow these tips, you can reduce your snuffles and cut down on the irritating symptoms.

  • Wash your linen regularly: Wash it in hot water to remove any pollen or irritants, and make sure you dry it indoors so that it doesn’t collect more pollen on the breeze!
  • Wash yourself before bed: You may be addicted to that morning shower, but you need to shower before bed too to beat the pollen. That way, you remove any pollen clinging to your skin and hair, and don’t transfer it to the sheets.
  • Watch those pets! Don’t let your cat or dog roll around the grass and then roll around on your couch and bed.
  • Be sensible: Don’t leave all the windows wide open with the fan on full, because pollen will fill your room. Use the air-con instead. If you need to mow the lawn, then wear a filter mask so you don’t breathe pollen in. Don’t sit out in the garden for long periods when the pollen count is high.
  • If you or your child take medication, be sure to take it 30 minutes before you go outside so it has a chance to work.
