Foods you shouldn’t give to baby

by RachelTheWriter

When you’re weaning your little one, it can be difficult to know exactly what to feed to provide a nutritionally balanced diet.  Here are a few of the foods you shouldn’t be introducing at a young age:

v     Sugar:  Why not start as you mean to go on?  Sugar is known to be addictive, and also causes tooth decay.  Limiting sugar to the natural kind in fruit is a good way to start your child off, preventing cravings in later life.

v     Nuts:  Whether chopped or whole, nuts are too hard and so can cause a choking hazard.

v     Honey:  Don’t give your child honey before the age of one, because it is associated with the risk of infant botulism.

v     High Fibre Foods:  Babies don’t need so much fibre to digest their foods, unlike adults.  Too much fibre can interfere with their digestion of important vitamins and minerals.

v     Unpasteurized cheeses:  Baby can get listeria from unpasteurized cheeses such as brie, so avoid them until he or she is older.

v     Salt:  Babies easily dehydrate, so it is dangerous to give them any salt.
