Having Children Makes You Eat More Fat

by admin

Being a parent can make you eat more fatty foods according to this Diet Blog. Apparently parents are eating the equivalent of a pepperoni pizza more saturated fat each week than childless adults! Reasons given for this increased consumption include having less time to prepare healthy meals due to pressures of raising a family, and the cost of good quality food being out of reach to families who are either surviving on one wage or paying for childcare. Marketing to children is another reason cited; children’s TV in many countries has mass advertising for high-fat products and takeaway, as well as high-sugar drinks.

So how can parents ensure that they eat well? A little planning will go a long way to help. Sit down as a family and decide on some meal plans for the week before you go shopping and write a shopping list. Be sure to include vegetables (in place of fries!). Make meals a family affair; sit at the dining table and talk rather than grabbing individual TV dinners (it can be cheaper to cook a proper meal instead of buying frozen). Try eating healthier snacks.

Parents have a duty to themselves (as well as their kids) to ensure that the whole family eats well and stays fit and healthy.
